The legal proceedings of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm are about to enter a new phase. According to reports, the defense is expected to complete its final arguments next week, after which the case will be handed over to the jury for deliberation. Presiding Judge Katherine Failla indicated that closing arguments from both the prosecution and defense may take place next Tuesday or Wednesday.
It is currently unclear whether Storm will testify in court. In the most recent hearing, an FBI agent testified that Storm controlled some of the funds of Tornado Cash. Storm is currently facing several serious charges, including money laundering, illegal remittances, and violations of U.S. sanctions.
It is worth noting that this case has attracted widespread attention from the cryptocurrency community. Industry well-known figures, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, have raised over $2.8 million for Storm's legal defense fund, demonstrating the community's high level of concern and support for the case.
The outcome of this case could have far-reaching implications for the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector, particularly in terms of privacy protection and regulatory compliance. As the case enters its final stages, both the cryptocurrency industry and the legal community are closely monitoring the developments, hoping that the final ruling will provide important references for similar cases.
