On March 21, Jinshi Data reported that several major military powers in Europe are formulating plans to take on greater European defense responsibilities from the United States. The plan includes proposing to the Trump administration a managed transfer of European defense responsibilities over the next 5 to 10 years to avoid the chaos that could arise from a unilateral U.S. withdrawal from NATO, a concern fueled by Trump's repeated threats to weaken or exit NATO. Four European officials stated that countries including the UK, France, Germany, and Nordic countries are participating in informal but organized discussions. Their goal is to propose a plan to shift fiscal and military responsibilities to European governments and submit it to the United States before NATO's annual leaders' summit in The Hague this June.
