PANews reported on December 3 that, according to Decrypt, generative AI startup Together raised $102.5 million in a Series A round of financing, led by Kleiner Perkins, an American venture capital firm, and followed by NVIDIA and Emergence Capital. Other institutions participating in Series A include NEA, Prosperity 7, Greycroft, 137 Ventures, Lux Capital, Definition Capital, and Long Journey Ventures.
The funds will be used to improve its cloud platform for AI applications, invest in R&D, contribute to open-source AI, and enhance its infrastructure. San Francisco-based Together was founded in June 2022 to develop open-source AI cloud software. The team is made up of veterans from Apple and ETH Zurich, as well as academics from Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Previously, generative AI startup Together announced the completion of a $20 million seed round of financing, led by Lux Capital, with participation from Factory, SV Angel, First Round Capital, and others.
It is reported that Together has released several projects that are supported by hundreds of thousands of AI developers, including GPT-JT, OpenChatKit, and RedPajama. Together has partnered with decentralized infrastructure providers, open source groups, and academic and corporate research labs to build a dedicated cloud platform for large models that can efficiently scale training and inference through research on distributed optimization, with plans to open access to the platform in the coming months.
